Writing in the Dark

by Chaplain Andrews on September 21, 2009

As my little boy goes to sleep, I sit in the dark and read from the New York Times on the computer and write my daily post. This has become a time at the end of the day I can think about the day and reflect.

Will, my little boy, is two—sometimes, he doesn’t quite go to bed by himself—so, we need to sit with him while he settles down. The upside is that it is a very quiet time alone with Will; the down side is that it is dark. I could get a book light and read—Monica does this…but it doesn’t work so well with comic books; and at this time of day that’s all I want to read. But, the computer has light of course and the glow from the screen illuminates the keyboard enough for me to type out some words.

It works pretty well actually.

So here I sit tonight, with a restless child fighting sleep and me on the computer getting ready for a peaceful night’s rest.

I actually enjoy that time…it’s quiet and peaceful. I’ve gotten some of my best reading done waiting on the kids to go to sleep.
